New Engine Temperature probe

29/7/2010

One of the electrical contacts on the old temperature sender had broken off. This meant no connection to the alarm and light on the panel. A new one was ordered from Beta Marine.

Cooling water was partially drained (and saved) and the old sender came out with no problem. The new one is certainly a different size but fortunately the staff at Beta Marine send an adaptor and this made the fitting straightforward.

Children Love Crayfishing

26/7/2010

Our friends from New Zealand - Wilfried, Kaye and children spent the day upstream. We moored up above Kings Lock. A bit of bacon on a piece of string soon results in screams of joy as crayfish are caught and popped in the bucket. We know that these creatures are actually non-native American signal crayfish and they can be trapped commercially and sold to restaurants. Technically, they are pests and we shouldn’t have thrown them back ...

An excursion with Wilfried

Took a friend from New Zealand out on the water. We started out with the covers off. A few showers later and we had the covers back on. Even the windscreen wipers worked. Wilfried commented that these reminded him of Land Rover wipers.

The horses ankle deep at the water’s edge looked picturesque. The grebes and geese scurried away as we passed.
