Entry from the log book by Daniela: Easter Sunday and Monday felt like mid-August this year! Bright blue skies, 26 degrees C or more, everything blooming, it’s simply unbelievable.Global warming? Or will we have to pay the price for this premature summer bliss in April by months of grey-brown sky in mid-July and August? |
We went all the way to Shillingford, mooring at Dorchester on Sunday night. Complete idyll! Hannah, Zoe and I walked across a blooming meadow into the village where we saw a house with fantastically trained wisteria - spinning along several houses. I wish I knew how to train wisteria.
Supper was spartan - tortellini, no sauce, no salt! But gorgeous scenery, ducks quacking, swans gliding by, nobody complained. Then a game of Scrabble. Chris won.
What I like about being on the boat is that it’s so peaceful and relaxing. Beautiful scenery glides by, I can read and think and do just one thing - not torn between doing a million different things. So I read a lot of transnational cinema stuff, thought how to revise my article on queers in the diasporic family, looked at idyllic houses and beautiful scenery. Even slept well, woke up to a gorgeous morning and Chris’s breakfast of boiled eggs, toast, strawberries and then some stretches on a dewey meadow. Hawks and other birds high in the sky above. We gave pub lunch a miss. It’s mostly disappointing and went to the Spice Lounge for dinner instead.
What a lovely relaxing cruise on the Thames. Thank you Captain Chris.
